Japan\u2019s consummate visual communicator, Fukuda-San is known around the world as a playful prankster, a modern-day <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M._C._Escher\" target=\"_blank\">Escher<\/a>, and an imaginative creator who \u201cdramatically shattered cultural and linguistic barriers with his universally recognizable style.\u201d Perhaps Alan Fletcher described him the best (in <em>Masters of the 20th Century<\/em>): \u201cShigeo Fukuda is a star in the design firmament\u2014on second thought, maybe he\u2019s more of a comet.\u201d Fukuda-San\u2014there\u2019s no doubt that you\u2019ll continue to light up our heaven\u2026<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>Image: Shigeo Fukuda alongside his famous poster titled <\/em>\u2018Victory 1945<em>,\u2019 a bitingly satirical commentary on the senselessness of war.\u00a0 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tokyo, Japan It\u2019s been a very sad day\u2026 I have just learned that the great graphic sensei, Shigeo Fukuda, has passed on.
