This is my third visit to <em>Isla Formosa<\/em> in recent years, and unlike the rushed and jam-packed previous visits, I\u2019m happily able to engage in some cultural and touristic discovery this time around.<\/p>\n<p>Accompanied by two beautiful and knowledgeable young interpreters (Julia and Tree), my <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Taipei\" target=\"_blank\">Taipei<\/a> tour started with a visit to the towering postmodern <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/101_tower\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Taipei 101<\/em><\/a> (the world\u2019s tallest skyscraper when it was completed five years ago), some upscale window-shopping (you\u2019d almost think Christmas was an ancient <em>Chinese<\/em> holiday), a delicious <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dim_sum\" target=\"_blank\">Dim Sum<\/a> lunch (best dumplings <em>ever<\/em>), followed by a half-day visit to the incredible <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Palace_Museum\" target=\"_blank\">National Palace Museum<\/a> (with its collection of 650,000 ancient artifacts encompassing 8000 years of Chinese history). The day ended with a fancy dinner of traditional foods and fine fellowship with Taiwanese design colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>Following the formal presentations and conference proceedings at the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Red_House_Theater\" target=\"_blank\">Red House Theatre<\/a> the next day, I had the chance to take in the impromptu street-sights and sounds of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ximending\" target=\"_blank\">Ximending<\/a> district.
