London, U.K.<\/em><\/p>\n Greenpeace climbers recently scaled the front of BP<\/a>\u2019s corporate headquarters in London to \u201cbrand them with a logo that better suits their dirty business.\u201d Greenpeace \u201cthinks their logo needs a makeover to better suit a company that invests in tar sands and other unconventional oil sources like deep water oil,\u201d and that a company that invests in tar sands\u2014the dirtiest oil there is\u2014needs something other than a nice green flower as their brand identity. \u201cWhile our effort at a new logo is OK, we think you can do better, so we\u2019re asking you to help us redesign BP\u2019s logo\u2026\u201d More information here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Several designer colleagues alerted me to this movement to find a more suitable \u201cbrand\u201d for BP today (thanks Toze in Porto, thanks JS in Montreal). For years I\u2019ve been showcasing BP\u2019s effervescent floral symbol as the classic example of\u00a0\u201ccorporate greenwashing\u201d<\/em> at design lectures I give, so I\u2019m neither surprised nor disappointed at what seems to be a growing movement to help this industry-leading company project a more honest image.
