Happy Nowruz<\/em> (new day) to all my Persian, Kurdish, and Turkish friends, and Happy New Year<\/em> to colleagues throughout the Indian sub-continent! Best wishes on this first day of Spring<\/em> (astronomical vernal equinox) to all others<\/em> in the northern hemisphere\u2026<\/p>\n Did you hear that winter\u2019s over? The basil<\/span><\/p>\n and the carnations cannot control their<\/span><\/p>\n laughter. The nightingale, back from his<\/span><\/p>\n wandering, has been made singing master<\/span><\/p>\n over the birds. The trees reach out their<\/span><\/p>\n congratulations. The soul goes dancing<\/span><\/p>\n through the king\u2019s doorway. Anemones blush<\/span><\/p>\n because they have seen the rose naked.<\/span><\/p>\n Spring, the only fair judge, walks in the<\/span><\/p>\n courtroom, and several December thieves steal<\/span><\/p>\n away, Last year\u2019s miracles will soon be<\/span><\/p>\n forgotten. New creatures whirl in from non-<\/span><\/p>\n existence, galaxies scattered around their<\/span><\/p>\n feet. Have you met them? Do you hear the<\/span><\/p>\n bud of Jesus crooning in the cradle? A single<\/span><\/p>\n narcissus flower has been appointed Inspector<\/span><\/p>\n of Kingdoms. A feast is set. Listen: the<\/span><\/p>\n wind is pouring wine! Love used to hide<\/span><\/p>\n inside images: no more! The orchard hangs<\/span><\/p>\n out its lanterns. The dead come stumbling by<\/span><\/p>\n in shrouds. Nothing can stay bound or be<\/span><\/p>\n imprisoned. You say, \u201cEnd this poem here,<\/span><\/p>\n and wait for what\u2019s next.\u201d I will.
