Unbelievable… but true.

“In an an attempt to cow and intimidate people into voting, Zimbabwe’s state security agents have launched “Operation Red Finger” to identify if people have voted by checking if they had indelible ink-stains on their finger. Those who have not voted could be beaten and forced to do so…” (from colleague Chaz Maviyane-Davies—keep the faith, friend, truth always prevails).

It’s a month today…

Boston, Massachusetts

This came in from friend Chaz Maviyane-Davies today…

“It’s a month since the Zimbabwe elections were held on March 29th 2008, and we are still waiting for the Presidential results. Meanwhile, Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF has embarked on a violent campaign of terror and intimidation in the rural areas against opposition supporters. There have been at least ten murders so far with hundreds injured and displaced. The madness continues as the world watches a tyrannical regime that has declared war with the people, whose only ‘crime’ is voting for change, and change they can trust.”

Disturbing and frustrating… we live in a world and era (allegedly) so seamless and connected, yet what can we do? At times I feel so helpless…

As they rig…

This just in from friend Chaz Maviyane-Davies, an ex-pat Zimbabwean designer, filmmaker, and tireless activist now working and teaching in Boston (Chaz was forced into exile years ago, by dent of his outspoken criticism of Robert Mugabe and Zanu-PF’s strong-arm regime). A full week after the latest elections, results have still not been released—it seems clear that rigging is once again in the works… but keep the faith, Chaz!
